Windwalker Therapy Dogs in RI Family Court
After many planning meetings, the partnership of WHC (Windwalker Humane Coalition for Professional Pet Assisted Therapy) and RI Family Court
was established in 2019/2020. Pilot programs to provide WHC Therapy Dogs in waiting areas started in two RI Courthouses are now ongoing programs.
The goal of the RI Court Therapy Dog Program is to provide comfort and stress relief while people await their court hearings. At this time WHC
is the only pet assisted therapy organization working with the RI court system and only Therapy Dogs credentialed by WHC are approved to participate in the program.
Windwalker Therapy Dogs spend time in the waiting areas of McGrath Judicial Complex/Washington County and Noel Judicial Complex/Kent County
Family Court when Court hearings are scheduled, so that people who may feel anxiety, fear, stress, or just want to be distracted, can voluntarily visit with a Therapy Dog while waiting
for their hearing. Several Windwalker Teams participate as their time permits. Times listed below can change and are contingent upon availability of a Credentialed Team. More days
of the week can be accommodated depending upon Team availability.
