Acceptable Equipment
- Collar - The collar may be leather, nylon or fabric and close with a buckle, a quick release clip or a snap.
- Leashes - With the exception of the clip, the leash should be either all leather or all fabric and
no longer than 6 feet in length. Remember that you want to keep your pet close to you as you navigate through facilities.
- Harnesses – Harnesses are a humane way to walk a dog on a leash because it does not put any pressure on the dog's neck. Harnesses are allowed as long as they are made of fabric or leather, fit the pet well and facilitate safe walking practices. The only metal should be the rings for various attachments of the leash. The preferred leash placement on the harness is the connection at the dog's chest.
We find the "Easy Walk" Harness to be a great one for most teams.
- Additional equipment - You should bring items that are necessary for the comfort and care of your pet,
such as water and water bottle/bowl, poop bags, and any other supplies that are appropriate for your pet. Some pets like a mat or blanket to rest on. We suggest also training treats
that are very small and soft... cooked chicken or cut up string cheese are good examples. For training rewards it should be extra special!
Unacceptable Equipment
- Any equipment that is considered harmful, unsafe or inhumane.
- Collars - Prong, chain choke, martingale with chain as well as shock or vibration collars are NEVER
acceptable for use. Metal collars or harnesses are never allowed. Halti type head gear that is over the nose are not acceptable.
- Leashes – Retractable, stretchable (bungee), slip, and metal leashes are not allowed.
- Seresto Collars - While fine for flea and tick prevention, must be removed and stored before all interactions. This is to prevent skin reactions and other adverse side effects from elders or other clients coming in contact with the collars.
