Reading to a dog is fun and interesting. It can be soothing for both the child and the dog. Early readers and reluctant readers
can be encouraged to read when a dog is listening.
Several Libraries have a partnership with WHC (Windwalker Humane Coalition for Professional Pet Assisted Therapy) and offer
ongoing programs for children to read to a Windwalker Credentialed therapy dog. Those libraries, the participating Credentialed teams, and the library websites for information
are listed below. It is recommended to contact each library directly for specific information about its program and schedule. Some libraries do hold periodic reading
programs and other educational themed presentations/programs throughout the year and contact WHC for teams to participate. To contact WHC, please go to "Join Us" or "Questions?" and complete the questionnaire.
Occasionally students and pets in training (who are enrolled in the DJ Program) participate, with permission of the DJ Program
Director, as part of their internship requirements.
